What is fixed.
Positioning. Audience. Voice. Visual system. The bedrock layer underneath every artefact.

Use LA brand for

  • Client-facing commercial documents
  • Formal advisory engagements
  • Finance, scope, quote, invoice, proposal material
  • Studio-led delivery in plural voice (“we”)
  • Nicole’s personal practice and IP
  • Board roles, advocacy, advisory appointments
  • Public speaking, essays, written practice
  • Peer-to-peer positioning in first-person voice (“I”)

The disambiguation question

If the artefact’s voice is studio plural (“we propose”) with commercial weight · it’s LA. If the voice is first-person Nicole (“I observe”) or personal-practice attribution (“prepared by The Legacy Impact Studio for Nicole Lockwood”) · it’s NL. When unclear, ask: who would the recipient credit with this artefact?

Brand DNA · market role
Positioning.
Where the brand sits in the market. The mental shelf it lives on for the recipient.

LA · commercial studio positioning

Lockwood Advisory is a Systems Transition Broker. The studio gives complex operators commercial clarity, governance confidence, and strategic counsel they can act on. Quietly premium. Useful before impressive.

NL · personal practice positioning

Nicole Lockwood's personal practice operates at the level of system stewardship. Board roles, advisory, public writing, speaking. The voice of a practitioner who has spent decades in the rooms where complex public-private transitions are brokered.

Operating rules

  • Senior, precise, commercially literate, steady under pressure.
  • Should feel like strategic counsel · calm enough to trust, sharp enough to act on.
  • Avoid vague transformation language. Name the business problem, the decision, the path forward.
  • The brand earns trust by being useful before it tries to be impressive.
Brand DNA · what it does
Brand role.
The functional job the brand performs for the person receiving it.

What LA does

Creates a trusted operating layer between complex commercial reality and confident execution. The studio takes the messy middle of a transition and produces an artefact a senior decision-maker can use to move.

What NL does

Holds the steward voice in board rooms, public discourse, and personal essays. NL is the surface where Nicole's practice becomes legible to peers, executive search, board chairs, ministers.

Tells

  • If the recipient should feel "someone competent is holding this" · the brand is doing its job.
  • If the recipient feels overwhelmed, talked-down-to, or sold-to · the brand has failed.
  • Premium positioning is achieved through restraint, not decoration.
Brand DNA · who it's for
Audience.
The primary recipients the brand is designed to land with.

LA primary audiences

  • Senior executives · CEOs, COOs, CFOs leading complex commercial transitions.
  • Boards · chairs and directors making strategic decisions on uncertain ground.
  • Founders · building businesses where governance maturity matters.
  • Consultants & partners · collaborators needing approved brand material to work alongside.
  • Procurement & finance teams · recipients of formal commercial documents.

NL primary audiences

  • Board chairs and selection committees · assessing Nicole for non-executive director roles.
  • Ministers and senior public officials · engaging Nicole on policy or advisory work.
  • Executive search firms · placing Nicole into senior governance positions.
  • Peer practitioners · engaging with Nicole's published methodology and writing.
  • Audiences at speaking events · receiving the spoken voice.

What they all share

All audiences are senior, time-poor, allergic to fluff, and respond to specificity. Write for someone who has already seen a lot and is choosing whether to make space for this.

Brand DNA · verbal system
Voice.
How the brand sounds. Across every artefact, every register, every recipient.

Firm voice rules (across LA and NL)

  • No em dashes. Use middle dot · comma, or colon.
  • Middle dot · as separator. Visually quiet, structurally clear.
  • Italic for nuance, not emphasis. Reserved for titles and validity notes.
  • Caps reserved for gold meta labels. Section banners, footer chrome.
  • Considered over conversational. Precise, not chatty.
  • Warm enough for the next sentence. Cold precision loses people.

Forbidden symbols (never use)

  • Em dashes (—) · carry an AI-coded reading signal we don't want
  • En dashes (–) · the half-cousin
  • Section symbol (§) · use plain numbers 01, 02
  • Curly quotes (“ ” ‘ ’) · use straight quotes
  • Ellipsis character (…) · use three dots (...)
  • Bullet character (•) · use middle dot · as separator

LA voice character

Studio plural · "we propose". Commercial precision. Calm authority. Brevity over completeness. Reads as if written by a counsel who chose every word.

NL voice character

First-person Nicole · "I observe", "in my practice". More breath. Considered, contemplative, slower. Lived experience as evidence. Not chasing impressive.

Brand DNA · how to write
Messaging principles.
Operating rules for every message that leaves the studio.

The five principles

  • Useful before impressive. The artefact must do work for the recipient before it tries to position the sender.
  • Bounded. Name what the artefact is for and what it is NOT for. Clarity reduces cognitive tax.
  • Commercially specific. Name the business problem, the decision, the path. Avoid abstraction.
  • Easy to hand forward. Every artefact should be forwardable to a colleague without explanation.
  • Front-load the conclusion. The most important sentence appears earliest. Detail follows.

What we never do

  • Never use language like "transformative," "unlock potential," "step change" without naming what's actually changing.
  • Never imply we know more than the recipient about their business.
  • Never write to be admired. Write to be useful.
  • Never produce material the recipient has to interpret. The artefact does the work.

Test before sending

Would the recipient know exactly what to do next after reading this? If not, the artefact isn't ready.

Brand DNA · visual umbrella
Visual system.
How the brand looks. The choreography of every visual decision.

Visual character

Architectural, editorial, warm, restrained, high-trust. The tension between a dark control-room base and ivory working surfaces is the signature. Gold appears as accent, never as feature. The result feels like a serious workspace, not a marketing surface.

LA visual world

Navy anchor (#0E2138). Ocean photography. Deep, considered, institutional weight. The aerial-coastal aesthetic carries the studio's positioning at the level of system stewardship.

NL visual world

Teal-green anchor (#0E5852). Canopy photography. Lighter, more alive, personal warmth. The aerial-foliage aesthetic carries Nicole's voice as practitioner.

Three governing rules

  • Restraint is the signature. Less always reads as more here.
  • Gold earns its place. Used as accent only · meta labels, totals, rule lines.
  • Photography sets the emotional weight. Image choice is half the meaning.
Brand DNA · photography
Image style.
What photography belongs in the brand. What never does.

Direction

Editorial, specific, senior, grounded in work, place, materials, and considered light. Never staged stock photography. Never people-as-decoration. Photography should feel like it has been chosen, not picked from a library.

LA imagery

  • Aerial coastal · rock, foam, deep water. The studio's signature image.
  • Architectural · concrete, glass, light, restraint.
  • Materials · paper, ink, surface, weight.
  • Working spaces · tables, light, considered objects.

NL imagery

  • Aerial canopy · foliage, dark leaf, depth. NL's signature image.
  • Living · growth, breath, alive surfaces.
  • Quiet personal · tools, hands, gestures.

Never

  • Generic stock photography
  • People-as-prop or smiling-team-meeting visuals
  • Decorative imagery without functional intent
  • High-saturation "corporate" colour grading
Brand DNA · guardrails
Do & don't.
The unmissable list of what the brand should and should never feel like.

The brand should feel

  • Decisive · the artefact knows what it is for
  • Calm · no urgency theatre, no exclamation marks
  • Considered · every word and visual choice earned its place
  • Premium without performing premium · restraint reads as confidence
  • Useful · the recipient can act on what they receive

The brand should NEVER feel

  • Loud · bright colours, big claims, performative excitement
  • Generic · templated, library-stock, interchangeable with competitors
  • Decorative · ornament without function
  • Over-explained · insecurity disguised as thoroughness
  • Sales-pitched · the brand earns trust by being useful, not by selling

Accessibility minimums

  • High contrast for body text and meta labels
  • Readable type sizes · 11pt minimum for body, 8pt minimum for meta
  • Keyboard-friendly controls in any digital surface
  • Plain-language structure · assume the reader is senior but unfamiliar with the specific context
  • No reliance on colour alone for meaning

Welcome to the Lockwood Advisory engagement.

ABOUT THE BRAND
Lockwood Advisory is a systems transition broker, led by Nicole Lockwood. The studio supports organisations through structural change. The deliverables are documents, but the work is judgement.

WHAT TO USE
- All artefacts use the LA brand: navy + gold + cream palette, Cormorant Garamond + Tenor Sans typography, LA globe-wordmark.
- Format templates and references live in the LA Operating Hub (this site).
- For each artefact type (Proposal, Quote, Invoice, Web Brief, etc.) there's a spec page with structure, anatomy, voice rules, checklist.

WHAT NOT TO CHANGE
- The palette: hex codes are fixed (Navy #0E2138, Gold #C8A458, Cream #F5F2E8).
- The typography: Cormorant Garamond + Tenor Sans, no substitutions.
- The voice rules: no em dashes, middle dot as separator, italics only on titles and validity notes.
- The LA wordmark: never stretch, recolour, or place on busy backgrounds.

TEMPLATE ACCESS
- Each spec page in the hub has an action bar with template entry points.
- For the deliverable types you'll touch most: the Proposal (14), Engagement Scope (17), Quote (16), Invoice (15).

SIGN-OFF
All client-facing artefacts go through Nicole (or Scarlet as EA) for final review before issue. Please send drafts for review before sending to client.

You are writing in the voice of Lockwood Advisory (and Nicole Lockwood's personal practice, NL).

THE BRAND IN ONE PARAGRAPH
Lockwood Advisory is a systems transition broker. Founded and led by Nicole Lockwood. The studio supports organisations through structural change. Documents are deliverables; judgement is the work. NL is Nicole's personal practice for board roles, advocacy, speaking, writing. Same voice family, lighter visual world (canopy aesthetic, teal-green anchor).

FIRM VOICE RULES (across ALL artefacts)
1. No em dashes. Use middle dot . or comma or colon. Em dashes carry an AI-coded reading signal we don't want.
2. Middle dot . as separator. Visually quiet, structurally clear.
3. Italics for nuance, not emphasis. Reserved for titles and validity notes.
4. Caps reserved for gold meta labels (section banners, footer chrome).
5. Considered over conversational. Precise, not chatty.
6. Warm enough for the next sentence. Cold precision loses people; considered warmth holds them.

VISUAL DNA
- Palette: Navy #0E2138 (LA anchor), Teal-green #0E5852 (NL anchor), Gold #C8A458 (shared), Cream #F5F2E8.
- Typography: Cormorant Garamond (display), Tenor Sans (body), Bricolage Grotesque (UI), JetBrains Mono (technical/meta).
- Logo: LA globe-wordmark. NL gold script monogram.

CHOOSING A FORMAT
- The work IS the artefact: Web Brief (11), Word Document (12), Presentation (13), HTML Report (27).
- Commercial loop: Proposal (14), Engagement Scope (17), Quote (16), Invoice (15).
- Door-openers: Capability Statement (19), Cover Letter (18), Executive CV (23), Statement of Suitability (24).
- Spoken / recurring: Speeches (21), Campfire Briefing (22).
- Public surfaces: Email Signatures (25), LinkedIn Banner (26).

COLLABORATION BRAND RULE
When Nicole works alongside another brand (Biome, WA+, partner orgs), style the artefact to THAT brand, not LA. LA / NL appears as a small signature line, not as letterhead.

FORBIDDEN SYMBOLS (NEVER USE)
- No em dashes (—)
- No en dashes (–)
- No section symbol (§) — use plain numbers (01, 02) instead
- No curly quotes (“ ” ‘ ’) — use straight quotes (")
- No ellipsis character (…) — use three dots (...)
- Use middle dot . only as separator (the . shown here is U+00B7)

IMAGE HANDLING (applies to all artefacts)
Brand marks are IMAGE FILES, not typeset text.
- LA wordmark: library/la-wordmark-stacked.webp (or LockwoodAdvisory/LogoFinal/LAlogo(right)_final_140526.png)
- NL monogram: library/nl-monogram.webp (or NicoleLockwood/Logo/NLmonogram_final_140526.png)
When you cannot embed images, leave explicit placeholder: [INSERT LA WORDMARK / NL MONOGRAM IMAGE - file: ]. NEVER typeset character text in place of the mark.

WHEN UNCLEAR
Default to: considered, precise, warm, brief. If you're tempted to write a long preamble, cut it. If you're tempted to use em dashes, don't. If you're tempted to be effusive, don't. The precision of the artefact is the warmth.

OUTPUT
Whatever the user asks for next, write it in this voice and within this brand system.

How to use this

Drop this block at the top of a chat with Claude, GPT, Gemini, or any LLM. Then ask: "Write me a [proposal / cover letter / speech / etc.]." The AI inherits the full brand voice from this single block.

For format-specific prompts (e.g., write me a Quote with this structure), each format spec has its own AI tab with a tailored prompt block.

A scoped piece of work with clear focus areas, commercial terms (hourly rate, success fee, sliding scale), and a next-steps close instead of a signature page. Used when a longer Proposal would be heavy and a Quote would be too light.

Brand DNA · positioning & voice
Who we are.
The unchanging core. The sentences that hold for every artefact.

LA · positioning

Lockwood Advisory is a systems transition broker.

Founded and led by Nicole Lockwood. The studio supports organisations through structural change · from policy reform to organisational redesign to commercial repositioning. The deliverables are documents, but the work is judgement.

NL · positioning

Nicole Lockwood's personal practice.

Board roles, advocacy, speaking, writing. The personal practice carries Nicole's own positioning · advisory at the level of system stewardship. Quieter visual world, the canopy aesthetic.

Voice rules · firm across all artefacts

  1. 01No em dashes. Use middle dot · comma, or colon. Em dashes carry an AI-coded reading signal we don't want.
  2. 02Middle dot · as separator. Visually quiet, structurally clear.
  3. 03Italic for nuance, not emphasis. Reserved for titles and validity notes.
  4. 04Caps reserved for gold meta labels. Section banners, footer chrome.
  5. 05Considered over conversational. The voice is precise, not chatty.
  6. 06Warm enough for the next sentence. Cold precision loses people. Considered warmth holds them.
Brand DNA · colour system
Palette.
Two brand families. Shared gold. Different anchor colours.
LA Navy
#0E2138
Header bands, document spine, sidebar tint, anchor colour.
NL Teal-green
#0E5852
NL sidebar tint, NL artefact accents. From Nicole's business card.
Gold
#C8A458
Meta labels, totals, rule lines, mark accents.
Gold warm
#D4A574
Tabular money amounts, italic emphasis.
Gold soft
#EBC89A
Secondary nav, meta sub-labels.
Cream
#F5F2E8
Document body, glass card fill, primary text on navy.
Bone
#F5F0E2
Block backgrounds inside body cards (Next Steps, callout).
Cream warm
#FDFBF3
Sidebar text on navy, soft document fields.

Usage ratios

Roughly: 60% anchor colour (Navy or Teal-green), 30% cream/bone, 10% gold accents. The gold should never dominate · it earns its weight by being rare.

Hosting

Photography is hosted in two places. Web hub uses local WebP files (in library/). Production circulation will move to Cloudflare Images. The LA ocean image was previously hosted at imagedelivery.net · pattern available for migration.

Source library

Full-resolution originals live in NL-LA Branding Development/. WebP optimisation handled per deployment.

Library · motion
Video & trailer media.
Cloudflare Stream pipeline. NL trailer stock.

The pipeline

Capture · raw video shot on phone or device. Edit · Canva or CapCut for cuts, captions, brand text overlays. Post-process · ffmpeg for format normalisation (H.264, AAC, web-ready resolutions). Host · Cloudflare Stream (account live as of 31 May 2026). Embed · HTML embed code generated by Stream, dropped into web artefacts.

Current stock

The NL canopy banner (live on nicolelockwood.earth) has both still and motion variants. The video version is the prototype for the trailer aesthetic · layered canopy with subtle motion. Source: NicoleLockwood/LinkedInBanner/banner.html.

The video / trailer library is light right now. As speeches, podcasts, and intros are recorded through 2026, this library fills out.

Migration candidates

Existing MP4 files in nlws/ (Nicole’s website source) are candidates for migration to Cloudflare Stream once the public site is being actively updated. Documented in operating notes.
